The perpetrator of a massacre of three women, was able to buy his firearms from an online store, without having to go through any kind of background check or any type of records check whatsoever. Radcliffe Haughton, killed and shot three women at a health spa in Brookfield, Milaukee. One of the victims was his wife Zina Haughton. The shooter was able to purchase his firearm just days after he was ordered by a judge during a ruling to surrender all guns in his possesion.
The website where Radscliffe bought the guns did not have any checks and sells different kinds of firearms with no questions asked. Purchasing of firearms online is one of the loopholes the government has yet to address in its effort to get firearms out of the wrong hands. Among these is the gun show loophole, wherein buyers can purchase a gun at any gun show without ever going through a criminal background check. With these loopholes, hundreds of firearms end up in the hands of criminal, felons and the mentaly unstable.
There is an imminent concern among gun control lobbyist about these problems, and so far only a few states have actually done anything about it. In most cases it takes a tragedy or a brutal event to make the government ever do anything about the problem. Similar to what happened to the Aurora Batman Massacre, Virginia Tech Shooting, and other such tragic events.
This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever read. It is against the law to receive a firearm directly through the mail unless it was already yours to begin with and was sent to the manufacturer for repair. Firearms can only be shipped to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder and you would then have to go through a federal background check (N.I.C.S.) This story has so much misinformation that the average uninformed person would think that obtaining a firearm is just one click away. NOT TRUE.
long guns can be shipped intra state…only handguns have to go through ffl
There is a loophole in Wisconsin state law that let him purchase his gun through a private seller on the website Armslist.com, without a background check.
Businessinsider.com reports:
“In its “Point, Click, Fire” investigation of illegal online gun sales, NYC investigators found that 62 percent of private gun sellers, most of them online, agreed to sell a gun to a customer who admitted he probably couldn’t pass a background check.
And some of the worst offenders were unlicensed sellers on Armslist.com. The report found a number of high-powered rifles, like a Ruger Mini 14 assault rifle, for sale on Armslist.com
In one videotaped phone call, an undercover investigator asked a seller who advertised a gun on Armslist if he was “one of those licensed guys” and admitted he couldn’t pass a background check — to which the seller only laughed. “No, I just take cash, and there you go!” the seller said while laughing.”
