After the 9-11 attack, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), funded by billions annually and employing 65,000 employees is again under fire for the hiring of a defrocked priest accused of child molesting as a security officer at a major United States airport.

A Philadelphia newspaper published the reports about the former priest who got hired without even completing a background check. The TSA, an agency created by Congress to secure the country’s transportation system, has came under fire more than once when a loaded firearm “slipped” through security at the Los Angeles International Airport the previous fall, with the agency blaming other agencies for the fault, with the reason that they are only in charge of screening baggage and explosives and not loaded firearms.

The defrocked priest, Thomas Harkins, of the Diocese of Camden was removed from priesthood amidst allegations of molesting two female grade-school students according to news sources. Although he was never prosecuted, the diocese did however fork out nearly two hundred thousand dollars to settle the civil lawsuits.

Federal Audit trashed the TSA in its incapacity, and that the U.S. remains vulnerable to a repeat of 9/11. Partly because it does not adequately screen baggage and passengers but mostly because it fails to properly screen foreign flight students, like what had happened when United States aviation trained students intentionally crashed planes into different targets in the country.
