The mass shooting that happened in San Bernardino, California is apparently the focus of some of the front runners in the on-going presidential race right now. Majority of the candidates do agree on one thing, the attack was linked to terrorism more than anything.
The couple responsible for the horrific shooting that killed 14 people, before being killed themselves in a shootout with authorities, have been identified as 29-year old Tashfeen Malik and 28-year old husband Syed Rizwan. The investigation towards the incident still has a long way to go but what authorities can confirm right now is that the shooting was an act of terrorism.
Hillary Clinton has mentioned that whatever the motivations were for the attack on the 14 innocent victims, stricter gun control laws should still be the priority. Most would agree with this, but unfortunately some still argue that this really wouldn’t be the solution as the incident last Tuesday involved guns bought legally. The shooter had no prior criminal records and had easily passed the background checks required to purchase the firearms he had used in the shooting. President Obama currently still has not called the recent mass shooting as an act of terrorism, which is a far cry from what the candidates, who are out to take his position, are saying.
Donald Trump on the other hand had recently mentioned that the recent mass shootings happening around the country are actually helping him in the polls.
“Sadly, every time, every single time there’s a tragedy, my poll Numbers go up. Because they feel that I am going to take care of them and they feel they want strength”, Trump had mentioned when talking about the recent gun related tragedy.
In the recent national republican poll conducted by CNN, Trump is leading with 36% of the overall votes which is 20 points above the next candidate. The poll was however conducted before the tragic shooting in San Bernardino, pointing to the possibility of Trump’s lead being significantly higher than the current numbers.
