SEATTLE, WA – A newly conducted poll among Washington voters shows strong support for a ballot that would require background checks for all gun sales across the state.

Initiative 594, which requires background checks for all firearm sales in the state, was found to be supported by 70% of the voters, who said that they would vote for initiative according to the Elway Poll.

A competing measure, promoted by gun rights advocates, received a 46% vote. Initiative 591, the competing measure, aims at preventing Washington State from adopting stricter background check laws.

Advocates for Initiative 594 have raised $2,700,000 while the opposing groups supporting Initiative 591 have only raised $800,000 according to the Public Disclosure Commission.

Both Initiative will be voted on in November, with 32% of people saying they would vote for both. The ballot Measures started as initiatives to the legislature, but did not advance after hearings were held by the House and Senate. Voters will decide on the issue this fall.
