Following the announcement of United States President Barack Obama’s executive actions to enhance the country’s current background check system, the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division is now currently set to increase its work force. It is now currency hiring staff to meet the president’s order to bolster its background checking capabilities.

The agency had also claimed that even before the President’s executive orders, they had already planned to increase their number of agents as the sheer amount of background checks have exponentially been increasing in the past couple of years.

“The workload of the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System has seen a steady increase over the past seventeen years, with December 2015 being the highest month on record for background checks,” FBI spokesperson Stephen Fischer Jr. had revealed in a statement.

There are currently 230 open position within the NICs department that is set to be filled up over the next two years. The new examiners will be assisting with the department’s operations in order to streamline and hasten the entire process.

As of the moment, there are currently close to 2,500 employees working in the Criminal Justice Information Services division in Harrison County with a facility located near the I-79 in Clarksburg.

Along with the increase in agents, the division will also be upgrading their current system’s technology in order to further increase the efficiency and accuracy of the background checks. According to Fischer, they will also be continually working with federal, state, tribal, and local agencies in order to increase the efficiencies of their reports.
