For those who need to get an FBI fingerprint background check, they may no longer have to wash ink from their fingers when they get fingerprinted as of this month. In Florida, one of the states now converting to an all digital in processing FBI fingerprint background checks, this is now a fact.

As of April this year, the state’s Department of Law Enforcement no longer accepts or provides the conventional ink and paper fingerprint cards. Now applicants have to process their background checks digitally via the use of an electronic fingerprinting device.

The FBI has trying to phase out hard copy fingerprinting for the past years, and have place the Florida State’s Department of Law Enforcement at the lead of its efforts in doing so. The FBI has stated that they hope to no longer accept or process paper fingerprints after April 15 of this year.

Submitting fingerprints is part of the process for completing a criminal background check. In most states, people are required to pass a background check as:

• Requirement to work with children, disabled or elderly adults
• Requirement to work at security companies
• Requirement to work at a correctional facility
• Requirement to work in the healthcare industry
• Requirement to work at a cemetery or funeral home
• Requirement to work as a mold inspector
• Requirement to work as a real estate agent
• Requirement to get a concealed weapons permit
• other legal requirements
