The unidentified hacker or group of hackers has once again made good on their threat against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and released the personal information of more than 20,000 FBI employees Monday afternoon, February 8, 2016. The publishing of the hacked data came just a day after the same hackers had released similar information of more than 10,000 Department of Homeland Security personnel.

Those responsible for the security breach had announced their successful hacking attempt via the Twitter user account @DotGovs. They then further claimed that the information they were able to obtain was from hacking the Department of Justice database. According to their tweets, the goal of their attacks has been to persuade the US government to cut relations with Israel.

“FBI and DHS info is dropped and that’s all we came to do, so now its time to go, bye folks! #FreePalestine”, the hackers had tweeted.

The hacked data that was published contained the personal details of thousands of employees which included their full names, titles, email addresses, and phone numbers. Fortunately, the data did not contain any other sensitive information such as social security numbers or bank accounts.

Justice Department spokesperson, Peter Carr had told reporters that they are currently investigating the hack and that there was no alarming breach of their personnel’s information.

“The department takes this very seriously and is continuing to deploy protection and defensive measures to safeguard information. Any activity that is determined to be criminal in nature will be referred to law enforcement for investigation”, Carr had mentioned.
