NORFOLK, Va. (AP) – The FBI Field Office in Norfolk, which has hosted its annual Citizens Academy Program, since 2004, is now accepting applicants for the program.

The Agency’s goal is to give businesses, community leaders, civic and religious groups an inside look at the FBI. The program includes a series of presentations, discussions, practical exercises and demonstrations that gives the participants insight into the FBI and its mission.

Classes will be held from April 2 until May 14, 2014 at the FBI’s new office in Norfolk. A total of 25 participants will be selected among the applicants, which will then be notified of their selection status by March next year.

Sessions will be held at the Norfolk Field Office from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the exception of the Range Day, which will be held at a local police department range, and the trip to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

• Must be at least 21 years of age;
• Must live or work within the jurisdiction of the FBI Norfolk Field Office;
• Must have no prior felony convictions;
• Must have no misdemeanor arrests within one year of application;
• Must pass a security check assessment; and
• Must be available to attend at least six of the eight academy sessions.
